I reached the pinnacle of success in the business world. 나는 비즈니스 세상에서 성공의 끝을 보았다.
In others’ eyes, my life is an epitome of success. 타인의 눈에 내 인생은 성공의 상징이다.
However, aside from work, I have little joy. In the end, wealth is only a fact of life that I am accust- omed to. 하지만, 일터를 떠나면 내 삶에 즐거움은 많지 않다. 결국 부는 내 삶의 일부가 되어버린 하나의 익숙한 ‘사실’일 뿐이었다.
At this moment, lying on the sick bed and recalling y whole life, I realize that all the recognition and wealth that I took so much pride in, have paled and become meaningless in the face of impending death. 지금 병들어 누워 과거 삶을 회상하는 이순간, 나는 . 깨닫는다. 정말 자부심을 가졌던 사회적 인정과 부는 결국 닥쳐올 죽음 앞에 희미해지고 의미 없어져 간다는 것을.
In the darkness, I look at the green lights from the life machines and hear the humming mechanical sounds, I can feel the breath of god of death drawing closer… 어둠 속 나는 생명 연장 장치의 녹색 빛과 윙윙거리는 기계음을 보고 들으며 죽음의 신의 숨결이 다가오는 것을 느낄 수 있다.
Now I know, when we have accumulated sufficient wealth to last our lifetime, we should pursue other matters that are unrelated to wealth… 이제야 나는 깨달았다? 생을 유지할 적당한 부를 쌓았다면 그 이후 우리는 부와 무관한 것을 추구해야 한다는 것을…
Should be something that is more important: 그 무엇이 부보다 더 중요하다면:
Perhaps relationships, perhaps art, perhaps a dream from younger days ... 예를 들어 관계, 아니면 예술, 또는 젊었을 때의 꿈을…
Non-stop pursuing of wealth will only turn a person into a twisted being, just like me. 끝없이 부를 추구하는 것은 결국 나 같은 비틀린 개인만을 남긴다. God gave us the senses to let us feel the love in everyone’s heart, not the illusions brought about by wealth. 신은 우리에게 부가 가져오는 환상이 아닌 만인이 가진 사랑을 느낄 수 있도록 감각(senses)을 선사하였다. The wealth I have won in my life I cannot bring with me. 내 인생을 통해 얻는 부를 나는 가져갈 수 없다.
What I can bring is only the memories precipitated by love. 내가 가져갈 수 있는 것은 사랑이 넘쳐나는 기억들뿐이다. That’s the true riches which will follow you, accompany you, giving you strength and light to go on. 그 기억들이야 말로 너를 따라다니고, 너와 함께하고, 지속할 힘과 빛을 주는 진정한 부이다. Love can travel a thousand miles. Life has no limit. Go where you want to go. Reach the height you want to reach. It is all in your heart and in your hands. 사랑은 수천 마일을 넘어설 수 있다. 생에 한계는 없다. 가고 싶은 곳을 가라. 성취하고 싶은 높이를 성취해라. 이 모든 것이 너의 심장과 손에 달려 있다. What is the most expensive bed in the world? - "Sick bed" 이 세상에서 제일 비싼 침대가 무슨 침대일까? - “병들어 누워 있는 침대이다” You can employ someone to drive the car for you, make money for you but you cannot have someone to bear the sickness for you. 너는 네 차를 운전해줄 사람을 고용할 수 있고, 돈을 벌어줄 사람을 구할 수도 있다. 하지만, 너 대신 아파줄 사람을 구할 수 없을 것이다. Material things lost can be found. But there is one thing that can never be found when it is lost ? "Life". 잃어버린 물질적인 것들은 다시 찾을 수 있다 - 하지만 “인생”은 한번 잃어버리면 절대 되찾을 수 없는 유일한 것이다. When a person goes into the operating room, he will realize that there is one book that he has yet to finish reading? "Book of Healthy Life". 한 사람이 수술대에 들어가며 본인이 끝까지 읽지 않은 유일한 책을 깨닫는데 그 책은 바로 “건강한 삶”에 대한 책이다. Whichever stage in life we are at right now, with time, we will face the day when the curtain comes down. 우리가 현재 삶의 어느 순간에 있던, 결국 시간이 지나면 우리는 삶이란 극의 커튼이 내려오는 순간을 맞이할 것이다. Treasure Love for your family, love for your spouse, love for your friends... 가족간의 사랑을 소중히하라. 배우자를 사랑하라, 친구들을 사랑하라,
Treat yourself well. Cherish others. 너 자신에게 잘 대해 줘라. 타인에게 잘 대해 줘라.
